Gmail and Google Workspace
Connect Gmail with an app password where Google account policy permits it.
Use the Gmail preset with a Google app password. Google OAuth is unavailable in the checked PressedMail build. This connection works in Free and paid editions when the Google account permits app passwords.
Check whether your account can connect
Google requires 2-Step Verification before issuing an app password. Some organization accounts, security-key-only configurations, and Advanced Protection accounts do not offer app passwords. If the option is missing, follow Google's account guidance or ask your administrator. Do not weaken an organization's security policy to make the connection work.
Personal Gmail accounts no longer have an enable/disable IMAP switch. Google removed that choice in January 2025. Workspace administrators can still control external-client access. See Google's email-client instructions.
Create the password and connect
- Open your Google Account security settings.
- Confirm 2-Step Verification is enabled, then open App passwords.
- Create a dedicated password for PressedMail and copy the generated value.
- In PressedMail, open Settings > Email Connections > Add Account.
- Choose Gmail. Enter your full email address, display name, and the app password.
- Run Test Connection, save the account, and wait for the first sync.
- Send to another address you control and reply from it to check both directions.
The preset supplies these settings:

Use the complete Gmail or Workspace address as the username. The normal Google password does not replace an app password.
Folders and labels
Gmail exposes labels through IMAP. A message with several labels can appear in several folders, including Inbox and All Mail. Compare it with Gmail before treating those views as duplicate messages.
PressedMail maps special folders such as Sent, Drafts, Trash, and Junk to the provider's folders. Read Inbox and folders before changing a folder mapping.
If authentication fails
Check the address and app password before changing ports. Google revokes app passwords after a Google Account password change, so you may need a new one. Revoke the dedicated password when you remove the PressedMail connection.
If Workspace policy blocks IMAP or app passwords, the administrator must decide whether this connection is permitted. When it is not, use a client with an authentication method the organization accepts.
A connected Gmail inbox does not configure WordPress notification mail. That has its own SMTP setup. For network or TLS errors, use Mailbox connections.
