Outlook and Microsoft 365
Use Microsoft sign-in and check the mailbox, endpoint, and tenant requirements.
Choose Outlook/Hotmail and sign in with Microsoft. This OAuth connection is available in Free and paid PressedMail builds. Do not enter a normal Microsoft password as a replacement for the sign-in flow.
Outlook.com accounts and Microsoft 365 work or school accounts have different policies. A successful browser sign-in does not guarantee IMAP and SMTP access.
Connect the mailbox
- Open Settings > Email Connections > Add Account.
- Choose Outlook/Hotmail.
- Start Microsoft sign-in and select the account you intend to connect.
- Review the requested access and complete any required consent.
- Return to PressedMail, test the connection, and save it.
- Check a recent inbox message, send to another address you control, and reply from it.
The preset supplies these values:

The SMTP preset is the Outlook.com endpoint. Microsoft documents smtp.office365.com for Exchange Online client submission. Do not assume the consumer preset proves compatibility with every business tenant. If your organization's endpoint requirements differ from what the wizard supplies, collect the error and contact support rather than falling back to password authentication.
Microsoft 365 policy checks
Ask the tenant administrator whether the mailbox permits IMAP, authenticated SMTP, and the requested application consent. Conditional Access can also restrict the sign-in.
SMTP AUTH can use OAuth; “SMTP AUTH disabled” does not mean you should enable legacy password authentication. Review Microsoft's SMTP AUTH guidance and OAuth support for IMAP and SMTP with the administrator.
Microsoft's application sending settings describe the Exchange Online endpoint. This guide does not authorize changing an organization's security defaults.
When sign-in succeeds but mail fails
Check IMAP and SMTP separately. Sending can fail because SMTP AUTH is disabled, the sender is unauthorized, or the WordPress host blocks the outgoing port.
A shared mailbox can need additional permissions and is not necessarily a separate login account. Do not treat a successful personal mailbox connection as a tested shared-mailbox setup.
For revoked consent or an expired connection, reconnect using Microsoft sign-in. When removing PressedMail access, review the authorized application in Microsoft as well as the local connection.
