Install and Quickstart

Upload the PressedMail Pro ZIP, activate it in WordPress, and reach the first mailbox setup flow.

PressedMail Pro is installed as a WordPress plugin ZIP. The plugin runs inside the WordPress admin and stores its local plugin data in the WordPress database. Your mail provider remains responsible for the mailbox, IMAP folders, SMTP sending, spam filtering, and authentication requirements.

Install PressedMail Pro in WordPress

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.6 or newer.
  • PHP 8.2 or newer.
  • HTTPS on the WordPress admin URL.
  • Permission to upload and activate plugins.
  • Outbound connections from WordPress to your IMAP server, SMTP server, and the PressedMail license service.
  • A mailbox that allows third-party IMAP and SMTP access. Some providers require app passwords or Modern Auth/OAuth2 before they will accept connections.

Mailbox account connections always use the bundled Webklex IMAP driver. The native php-imap extension is not required. See PHP IMAP vs Webklex for the distinction between account connections and diagnostics.

Install the ZIP

  1. Download the current PressedMail Pro ZIP from pressedmail.com/home/downloads.
  2. In WordPress, open Plugins > Add Plugin.
  3. Select Upload Plugin.
  4. Choose the PressedMail ZIP.
  5. Select Install Now.
  6. Select Activate Plugin after WordPress finishes unpacking it.
  7. Open PressedMail from the WordPress admin menu.

First Launch

If the Pro build is not activated, PressedMail shows the license activation screen before the inbox loads. Activate the key from License Activation, then continue with mailbox setup.

After activation, connect the first mailbox from the setup flow or Email Accounts screen. Choose a preset provider when it matches your mailbox, or choose Custom Email when the provider gives you manual IMAP and SMTP settings.

Validate the first account

  1. Enter the mailbox address and provider credentials.
  2. Confirm the detected or entered IMAP and SMTP servers.
  3. Use the connection test before saving.
  4. Open the inbox and wait for the first sync.
  5. Send a short test message and confirm it appears in the Sent folder.

If a provider rejects the credentials, check the matching provider page in Email Accounts. Provider-side app passwords, mailbox IMAP toggles, and SMTP AUTH policies are the most common causes.
