1.8.2

Summary

1.8.2 is a fix release. Pro activates on www. sites again and rides out a licence server hiccup. Pasted images reach the people you write to, a password lock no longer locks you out by mistake, and the editor always lets you add a line around a picture. Mail sync and sending got sturdier, and multisite networks keep account mail away from subsite connections.

Added

  • An admin setting decides whether users may lock PressedMail with a password. It is off on new sites and stays on where someone already uses a lock.
  • Forgot your lock password? Pick one of your own email addresses, confirm your WordPress password, and PressedMail emails you a reset link that works once, for 30 minutes.

Changed

  • On multisite, changing or testing WordPress email settings needs a network administrator. A subsite administrator can still read the settings and the delivery log.
  • On a multisite subsite, password reset, signup and welcome emails go through the main site's connection when it has one that can send, and otherwise the way WordPress sends them.
  • Removing a mailbox returns at once. Its stored mail is cleared in the background.
  • Mailboxes on the site's own private network connect only when wp-config.php allows them with PRESSEDMAIL_ALLOW_PRIVATE_MAIL_HOSTS (true, or a list of names and ranges). Cloud metadata addresses stay blocked.
  • Only administrators can set the shared AI key or turn on deleting all data on uninstall.
  • Pro: files attached to a scheduled email are private to the person who scheduled it, and files left behind by a schedule that failed are cleaned up after a day.
  • Pro: the licence grace warning counts down to the day Pro would really lock, and the licence screen shows the signed expiry.
  • Password lock is now a site choice: "Let users lock PressedMail with a password" under Settings, Access Control. It is off on a new site and on where someone already set a lock. Turning it off removes every user's lock.
  • A forgotten passphrase is reset by email. Confirm your WordPress password, pick one of your own addresses, and open the link within 30 minutes while signed in. So a lock can only be set while WordPress email goes out through a working SMTP server.

Fixed

  • Pro activates on sites whose address starts with www. or has capital letters.
  • Pro: one refusal from the licence server no longer locks Pro. It takes three refusals spread over at least a day.
  • Mail sync no longer skips new mail when the server fails to look up its message number, so rules, AI and notifications still run on it.
  • A mail server that resets a large folder no longer freezes that folder while the old copy is cleared.
  • One throttled mailbox no longer stops other mailboxes on the same server from syncing.
  • An update whose migration fails on one row no longer blocks every later update. Site Health names the step it set aside and says what to do.
  • A message accepted for some recipients and refused for others counts as sent, with the refused addresses named, so a resend no longer duplicates it.
  • An image pasted or uploaded into an email now reaches the recipient. It travels inside the message, so it shows even where remote images are blocked.
  • Sent mail now looks the way it did in the composer: dividers, a forwarded header's address, code fonts, indents and table borders all arrive, and every campaign recipient gets the embedded images. A reopened draft keeps its date chips, callouts and column widths.
  • Mailbox IMAP and SMTP servers are checked against the public address rules each time they connect, not only when the account is saved.
  • A mail server that rejects the password or app password at login fails at once with a message that says so, instead of being retried for an hour.
  • Mail logins and server names that contain a line break or NUL character are refused.
  • Adding or saving an account keeps the setup wizard and what you typed on screen.
  • Switching mailboxes during a refresh no longer shows the old mailbox's mail, and Try again reloads a mail list that failed to load.
  • Pro: a scheduled send that hits a brief mail server outage retries for up to an hour instead of failing.
  • Pro: Undo Send follows the server's clock, so a browser clock that is off no longer hides Undo early.
  • Pro: AI tagging and phishing checks wait out credit and rate limit refusals, on sites in any language, instead of failing the email.
  • Pro: the AI provider test and model list send a saved API key only to the address it was saved for.
  • Pro: saving a new AI provider address without a key clears the saved key and asks for the new one.
  • Pro: packaged builds ignore a signing key or update address the site defines for itself.
  • Pro: queueing an Undo Send and creating a follow-up are refused on the server when the feature is off.
  • Pro: a draft's date chip survives reopening the draft.
  • A picture pasted into a signature keeps showing after you save it. In Pro the same goes for templates and auto-replies, and a WordPress notification built from a template carries its pictures inside the message.
  • A date chip in a sent email shows the date, such as October 26, 2026, in your language. "Today" was only true on the day you sent it.
  • Free: image captions reach the recipient, and to-do items arrive with their checkbox, ticked and struck through when done.
  • Pro: removing every Cc or Bcc recipient from a scheduled email now sticks.
  • Pro: editing a scheduled email with several recipients, or a recipient with a display name, keeps it sendable.
  • Pro: deactivating and reactivating the plugin restarts scheduled sends, snoozes and calendar reminders.
  • Pro: a shared AI key you removed stays removed after an update.
  • Pro: on Ultimate, a settings manager who is not an administrator is no longer offered Branding & Appearance, a tab that only refused them.
  • Password lock: one wrong passphrase no longer says "too many attempts", a lockout no longer blocks the forgot passphrase screen, and browsers no longer fill the WordPress password into the passphrase fields.
  • A picture at the top of an email, or two pictures in a row, no longer leave you nowhere to type. Enter on a picture adds a line below it, Shift+Enter or the up arrow adds one above, and the picture and block menus have Insert line above and Insert line below. Dragging a block to the edge of the editor scrolls it, so a big picture can go below what is on screen.

Upgrade Notes

  • Nothing to do. On multisite, a subsite administrator who used to manage WordPress email settings now needs a network administrator to make changes.
  • If Site Health lists a PressedMail update step it gave up on, check that the database user may create and alter tables, then deactivate and activate PressedMail.
  • A mailbox whose mail server sits on a private network address stops connecting until wp-config.php sets PRESSEDMAIL_ALLOW_PRIVATE_MAIL_HOSTS.
  • Password lock: sites where someone already set a lock keep it on. Set up WordPress email under Settings, WordPress Email so a forgotten passphrase can be reset.

Helps get more clients

As a freelancer I need to manage several clients’ accounts. I installed PressedMail on WordPress on localhost and use it as my main email client. I manage everything for clients from PressedMail. And several clients use PressedMail now after I have set their WordPress instances up.

Email Swiss Army Knife

We use PressedMail as a value added service for clients and potential clients as a feature of our agency’s offering helping put us ahead of competition. We love the white-labelling feature, automation, and security controls. It also replaces several of the other plugins we used to use and it’s like a small CRM.
